1 Golden Jubilee seminar
As part of Golden jubilee celebrations a seminar
on “Nano Photonics and Devices” was
organized on 19th January 2016. Dr. N. V. Unnikrishnan, Professor
Emeritus, M. G. university was the resource person.The Function was presided
over by the Principal Dr. D. Latheesh. The felicitations were offered by Dr. A. Mohanankumar, covener, seminar
committee and Dr. C. Unnikrishnan, Convener, Golden Jubilee committee.
2Guidance class for grow bag cultivation
Smt.
Poornima Yadav, Assistant Professor, Agricultural University, Vellayani visited the Department for promoting the grow
bag cultivation by the students on 25th January 2016.

general meeting of the former students of the Department was organized on 26th
January 2016.

A one
day seminar on Nano science was organized on 29th January 2016. Dr.
R. Raveendran, Principal, S. N. College, Varkala was the resource person.

6 Prof. T. Vijayakumari Amma memorial All Kerala Inter Collegiate
Physics quiz competition
An
inter collegiate quiz competition “Prof. T. Vijayakumari Amma memorial All
Kerala Inter Collegiate Physics quiz competition” was organized on 9thMarch
2016 in memory of the former faculty Prof. T. Vijayakumari Amma by the Prof. T.
Vijayakumari foundation. colleges participated in the event from all over
Kerala. Mar Ivanios College Trivandrum secured the first prize, Mannam Memorial NSS, Kottiyam and St.
Cyril’s College Adoor secured the 2nd and 3rd positions
respectively. Participation certificates were issued to all the participants.
Cash prize, Memento and certificates were issued to 1st, 2nd,
3rd and 4th places in the competition.
7 wall magazine
The group Lumiere
(Akhil P, Vaisakh M, Amaljith A, Sreeram Jayan, Sanjay S, Darsana M. S, and
Anusree C) published the second edition of the wall
magazine “Curiosity” on 29th June 2016. The theme was “Gravitational waves”.

Workshop on Experimental Physics
As part of the
extension activities, the Department has been organizing a workshop on
experimental physics for the higher secondary students for the last few years. The
current year programme was held on 30th June 2016. Sixty students
from ten different schools participated in this programme. Participation
certificates were issued and the feedback was recorded.
9 Study Tour
One -day visit to
Planetarium and V. S. S. C was organized for second semester students on 5th
July 2016. During this programme they also visited the zoo and shankumugham
beach at Thiruvananthapuram.
